PHILISTIA (PALESTINE). Askalon. Autonomous issues, 1st century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 12.71 g, 1 h), CY 41 = 63/2. Diademed head of Antiochos VIII (?) to right. Rev. [ΙΕΡΑΣ] ΑΣΥΛ[ΟΥ ΑΣΚΑΛ]ΩΝΙΤΩΝ Eagle standing left on thunderbolt, palm over right wing; in left field, L MA above dove standing left; between legs, monogram of ΔΩ. BMC 18. HGC 10, 516. Very rare. Flan flaws and porosity, otherwise, nearly very fine.
